ICN Congress 2021 Virtual
In response to COVID-19 public health issues and travel restrictions, we will no longer hold a physical ICN Congress in June 2021. Instead we will bring together our National Nurses Associations and their members in an innovative virtual congress format later in the year. Using the theme ‘Nursing Around the World’, we will pass the nursing baton across the different regions in a series of live and interactive events that will give our members the opportunity to showcase their expertise and innovations throughout the world.
We will have a strong scientific programme and we expect to receive a record number of abstracts. There will be plenaries and symposiums, but this will also be an occasion for us to share the joy of friendship and celebrate our different cultures and nations.
We are delighted to announce that the ICN 2021 Congress will take place on 2-4 November 2021.
What does this mean for:
1 Call for abstracts
Abstract submission will reopen from 15 January to 4 March 2021 with the option to edit previously submitted papers as well as submit new abstracts.
2 Registrations
For those already registered for ICN2021, we offer the choice of a full refund or a transfer of your registration to the Virtual Congress with a refund of the difference. Full details on new fees will be available shortly. Registration to the Congress will open early 2021.
3 Exhibition and sponsorship
Partners will receive information on new virtual opportunities by the end of November. For those who have already confirmed their support to the ICN Congress, a personalised solution will be made to either transfer to an online package or receive a refund.

The International Council of Nurses is pleased to announce the next ICN Congress to be held in Abu Dhabi, UAE, from 5-9 June 2021.
Hosted by the Emirates Nursing Association, this international gathering of thousands of nurses will explore many topics of interest to the nursing community and global health, and provide opportunities for nurses to build relationships and disseminate nursing and health-related knowledge. The Council of National Nursing Association Representatives, ICN’s global governing body, will convene from 3-6 June 2021. Congress participants who are members of ICN member associations will be able to observe global nursing leaders, identify the profession’s priorities and future directions.
The ICN 2021 Congress and Exhibition will have the overarching theme “Nursing the World Together”. This theme builds on the theme of International Nurses Day 2020, “Nursing the World to Health” and combines it with the ICN President’s watchword “Together”.
2020 is a time to celebrate the work of nurses and midwives internationally, highlight the challenging conditions they often face, and advocate for increased investments in the nursing and midwifery workforce. While the world is focusing on the global pandemic COVID-19, the convergence of these two events should not be lost on us. The importance of the nursing workforce in this time of need cannot be overstated. Nurses are at the centre of efforts to prevent, contain and manage this health emergency.
The ICN 2021 Congress and Exhibition will build on the vital contribution of nurses in the battle for health and well-being across the entire world. We recognise that no country can do this alone: we must do this together.
