Abstracts that will be considered include:
- Original work that has never been presented
- Abstracts submitted to other scientific meetings (i.e., DDW, AASLD, ACG, CCFA, ANGM) in the last 12 months
- Abstracts submitted to local/regional meetings in any calendar year
- Abstracts describing work that has been submitted as a manuscript or accepted as a manuscript for publication at the time of submission, but not yet published in a print edition of a journal and/or not available online in their official formatted version may be submitted.
- Abstracts presenting trials in progress/clinical trial design: Abstracts that present planned or ongoing trials with a focus on trial rationale, design, methods such as outcomes measures or data analysis, and participant eligibility. Study results should not be presented.

Clinical Case Reports and small case series should only be submitted to the Clinical Vignettes section (except CPNP abstracts.) They will be rejected if submitted to the Scientific Abstract Section.
*CLINICAL VIGNETTE POSTER SESSIONS
NASPGHAN recognizes the importance of patient-related clinical information in furthering knowledge and approaches to diverse problems in the management of pediatric gastrointestinal disorders. Accordingly, a separate abstract category of Clinical Vignettes will again be held this year. This poster session will permit the submission of interesting clinical cases, or case reports that:
- describe new clinical problems;
- demonstrate important teaching points; or
- amplify clinical experiences.
Submitted abstracts might include the presentation of interesting or challenging cases, discussion of a new or incompletely understood clinical problem, or consideration of a treatment protocol that differs from traditional approaches. Clinical Case Reports should only be submitted to the Clinical Vignettes section. They will be rejected if submitted to the Scientific Abstracts section.
Accepted submissions will be presented as posters, encouraging informal and collegial discussion. Clinical vignette abstracts will be integrated with other poster sessions, subdivided by appropriate organ/disease category. By sharing important clinical experiences in a meaningful and instructive format, we encourage practicing pediatric gastroenterologists and fellows-in-training to consider a submission to this session. All abstracts will be reviewed and selected by the clinical vignette subcommittee of the Clinical Care and Quality Committee.
AWARDS
The Young Faculty Investigator Award is given to a laboratory scientist submitting an outstanding scientific abstract. Candidates for this award must be: 1) less than five years beyond fellowship training in pediatric gastroenterology and nutrition in North America; 2) first author 3) a member of NASPGHAN. Eligible applicants may submit only one abstract for this award. The award is $1000 plus travel expenses to the annual meeting.
The Young Faculty Clinical Investigator Award is given to a clinical investigator submitting an outstanding scientific abstract focusing on clinical investigation or outcomes research and must be: 1) less than ten years beyond fellowship training in pediatric gastroenterology and nutrition; 2) first author; 3) a member of NASPGHAN. Eligible applicants may submit only one abstract for this award. The award is $1000 plus travel expenses to the annual meeting.
The Fellow Research Award is given to a fellow in pediatric gastroenterology/nutrition submitting an outstanding abstract. The recipient must be a fellow in training, be the first author, and be a NASPGHAN member. Eligible applicants may submit only one abstract for this award. The award is $500 plus travel expenses to the annual meeting.
Five Latin America Travel Awards will be given to LASPGHAN members residing in a LASPGHAN country or Mexico who submit outstanding scientific abstracts. Clinical vignettes are not eligible. The 1st ranked abstract will receive a full award for hotel, travel, registration, and postgraduate course expenses. The 2nd-5th ranked abstracts will receive a waiver of the annual meeting registration and postgraduate course fees. Awardees must be conversant in English and be able to present the abstract in a poster or oral session. The awards will be given to the presenting author.
NASPGHAN Travel Award for Mexican Pediatric Gastroenterologists: Ten Travel Awards will be given to members residing in Mexico who submit outstanding scientific abstracts. Clinical vignettes are not eligible. The 1st and 2nd ranked abstracts will receive a full award of the hotel, travel, registration, and postgraduate course expenses. The 3rd – 10th ranked abstracts will receive a waiver of the annual meeting registration and postgraduate course fees. Awardees must be conversant in English and be able to present the abstract in a poster or oral session. The awards will be given to the presenting author.
The NASPGHAN Endoscopy Prize has been developed to promote the pursuit of research related to endoscopy and other procedures in children. This award is in the amount of $500.00. NASPGHAN members whose abstracts have been accepted for presentation may be considered for the prize. One author on the abstract must be a NASPGHAN member. Abstracts whose focus is primarily on endoscopy or other procedures and that have been accepted for presentation at sessions other than the ASGE/NASPGHAN Pediatric Endoscopy Forum will still be eligible for consideration. Members of the abstract reviewing committee/ judging committee are not eligible for the prize.
The NASPGHAN Neurogastroenterology and Motility Prize has been developed to promote the pursuit of research related to Functional and Motility disorders in children. The Awards in the amount of $500 each will be given to one outstanding clinical abstract and one to the outstanding basic science abstract. One author on the abstract must be a NASPGHAN member. The winners will present their work during the meeting.
The NASPGHAN Nutrition Prize has been developed to promote the pursuit of research related to nutritional disorders in children. The Award in the amount of $500 will be given to the outstanding nutrition abstract. One author on the abstract must be a member of NASPGHAN. The winners will present their work during the meeting.
The NASPGHAN Amin Tjota Award for Excellence in Pancreatic Research Prize has been developed to promote the pursuit of research related to pancreatic disorders in children. The Award in the amount of $500 will be given to the outstanding pancreas abstract. One author on the abstract must be a member of NASPGHAN. The winners will present their work during the meeting.
The APFED Outstanding EGID Abstract Award has been developed to encourage the pursuit of research related to eosinophilic gastrointestinal diseases in children. Two awards in the amount of $750 each will be given to the two top-scored abstracts as determined by NASPGHAN. One author on each abstract must be a NASPGHAN member. The winners will present their work during the meeting. This award is being generously supported by the American Partnership for Eosinophilic Disorders (APFED).
The Cyclic Vomiting Syndrome Association (CVSA) Young Investigator Prize in honor of B Li in Functional GI Disorders has been developed to promote the pursuit of research in these conditions. This award will be given to a young investigator submitting an outstanding scientific abstract focusing on basic science, clinical investigation, or outcomes research in the following conditions: Cyclic vomiting syndrome, aerophagia, rumination syndrome, functional dyspepsia, irritable bowel syndrome, or functional abdominal pain (submissions for any other condition must have a written justification for inclusion in this category). The investigator must be: 1) less than ten years beyond fellowship training in pediatric gastroenterology and nutrition or from receiving a PhD; 2) first author; 3) a member of NASPGHAN. Eligible applicants may submit only one abstract for this award. The award is $750.
The Feeding Matters Outstanding Pediatric Feeding Disorder Abstract Award encourages the pursuit of research related to pediatric feeding disorders in children. Two awards in the amount of $500 each will be given to the top-scored 2 abstracts as determined by NASPGHAN. One author on each abstract must be a NASPGHAN member. The winners will present their work during the meeting. This award is being generously supported by Feeding Matters.
