Welcome Message

I hope everyone is doing well.
The 115th Annual Meeting of the Japanese Society of Pathology will be held at the Grand Mercure Sapporo Odori Park and Sapporo Education and Culture Hall from Thursday, April 16 to Saturday April 18, 2026. The theme is “Pathologists, be ambitious!”

Sapporo Agricultural College (formerly Hokkaido University) was established in 1876. The first vice principal, Dr. William S. Clerk, advocated the first graduates to have a “lofty ambition.” In experimental and clinical pathology, the complexities of diagnosis based on molecular genetics have rapidly developed with the introduction of next-generation technologies, and sometimes we find ourselves preoccupied with finishing the job in front of us. Various projects are being prepared at this time for this annual meeting, including symposiums and workshops to discuss cutting edge research and diagnosis, so everyone, whether new or experienced, will be able return to the source and gain an overview of pathology, and rediscover the pleasure of pathological research and joy in pathological diagnosis. Keywords such as AI, genome, imaging, single cell, spatial transcriptomics, and bioinformatics related to the development of next-generation technology in pathology, as well as companion diagnosis to respond for driver gene mutation, the needs of pathological diagnosis which change as molecular targeted therapy progresses, pathological diagnosis of rare cancer, new pathological knowledge of non-neoplastic diseases that respond to therapeutic agents, and the current state of WHO classification, terms and conditions will be discussed. Implementation of remote diagnosis has progressed along with the development of ITC technology, and a future vision of pathological practice is also important. It is our sincere desire that this annual meeting will be an opportunity for all researchers and diagnosticians involved in pathology, including new ones, to strengthen their resolve.
