78th Anniversary of the PostGraduate Assembly in Anesthesiology (PGA78)

The PostGraduate Assembly in Anesthesiology (PGA) is an event, sponsored by the New York State Society of Anesthesiologists, Inc., and takes place each December in New York City. The PGA attracts upwards of 4,000 attendees from around the world, and is a global platform for networking and presenting anesthesia’s latest science and technologies. The PGA’s scientific program offers more than 170 sessions, special lectures and hands-on workshops. Attendees have the opportunity to share innovating ideas in perioperative medicine, intensive care, emergency medicine and pain management, as well as evidence-based knowledge of primary clinical relevance.

SUBMIT AN ABSTRACT
General Guidelines
Submission Deadline: July 15, 2024
- Submitted abstracts can be edited until submission deadline.
- Abstracts must be written in proper and grammatically-correct English.
- There is no limit to the number of abstracts that may be submitted.
- The submitting author is required to ensure that all co-authors are aware of the abstract content before submission.
- All accepted abstracts will be presented live at the PGA; a presenter is required to register and attend the meeting in-person to present the poster. Poster presentations will be on Saturday, December 7 and Sunday, December 8, 2024.
- Resident registration is free for NYSSA members and $150 for resident non-members.
- Resident, Fellow & Medical Student submissions require faculty mentor and program director names and emails.
- No promotional content of an ineligible company may be included (brand/trade/product names, photos, logos, company names, etc.).
- Abstract submission is text only. Tables and images should be uploaded in final posters only.
- Please enter all information in upper/lower case.
Medically Challenging Cases
- This submission category pertains to cases that are unusual, novel, or illustrate innovative perioperative management.
- The primary author must be a resident, fellow or medical student.
- One learning objective (max. word count = 30), case description (max. word count = 150), and discussion (max. word count = 200) are required for submission.
- Do not include the institution in the abstract body or title.
- Include maximum of three (3) references.
Scientific Posters
- This submission category pertains to original research in the field of anesthesiology and its subspecialties.
- Abstract must include introduction/hypothesis (max. word count = 150), study design/methods (max. word count = 200), results (max. word count = 100), and discussion (max. word count = 150).
- Do not include the institution in the abstract body or title.
- Include maximum of three (3) references in the order in which they appear in the abstract.
Young Investigator Research Contest (YIRC)
The purpose of the Young Investigator Research Contest (YIRC) is to recognize and reward trainees and young investigators for excellence in original basic science, clinical, or population-based research, as reported in the submitted abstract.
- The work must NOT have been published in a peer-reviewed journal prior to the presentation date at this meeting.
- The author must have conducted a major portion of the research during their internship, residency or fellowship, personally prepared the abstract, and have completed residency/fellowship training within the last five (5) years (attestation required with submission).
- Prior submission or presentation of this work is permissible and would not disqualify the entry.
- Abstract must include:
- Hypothesis (purpose of study).
- Methods (study design, study dates, research setting, sample or data sources and selection process, inclusion/exclusion criteria, description of intervention, list of outcomes and measurements, description of statistical methods used for analysis, methods used to control for potential confounding/bias).
- Results (description of what was found, frequencies of outcome variables).
- Conclusions (significance of the findings, including questions arising from or further implications of the study).
- Submitted abstracts will be reviewed by the Young Investigator Research Contest Committee.
- Monetary prizes will be awarded to contest winners.
- Presentations for the contest will take place in person on Saturday, December 7, 2024.
Note: if your submission is not selected for the YIRC, it will still be considered for presentation as a Scientific Poster.
Quality Improvement Projects
- Quality Improvement (QI) Projects involve systematic, data-guided initiatives or processes designed to improve clinical care, patient safety, health care operations, or for developing new programs or services.
- Submissions must have an introduction (max. word count = 100), AIM statement (max. word count = 30), benchmark data, description of intervention, and post-intervention results.
- Include maximum of three (3) references.
