Key Deadlines
- Abstract Submission closes: 11 December 2023, 23:59 CET
- Notification Sent By: 4 March 2024
- Early Bird Deadline for Presenting Authors: 1 April 2024
- EOS 2024 Congress: 9-13 June 2024
General Information
1. Abstracts can be submitted for selection and inclusion as oral presentations, scientific posters or clinical posters.
2. For the 2024 Congress, there are no topics to select as part of your submission.
3. Each participant may submit up to two abstracts as a presenting author, either an oral and poster OR two posters.
Abstracts not selected for orals will be given the option to be presented as scientific or clinical posters. Therefore, do not submit the same abstract for both modes of presentation; duplicate abstracts will be discarded.
‘Scientific posters’ include basic or clinical research, systematic reviews and meta-analyses. Abstracts of posters judged by the Scientific Committee to fall into this category AND are presented at the congress in person will be published in the European Journal of Orthodontics.
‘Clinical posters’ include clinical case reports, case series, presentation of new appliances and clinical techniques (without clinical testing). Abstracts of posters judged by the Scientific Committee to fall into this category will not be published in the European Journal of Orthodontics.
4. Only five authors can be included in any one abstract.
5. All authors and co-authors should declare any financial interest.
6. On entering the abstract submission for the first time, submitters will need to create a new account. The selected login name and password can be used to view or amend the draft abstract before it is submitted by the deadline of 11 December 2023, 23:59 CET. Once submitted, the abstract cannot be modified. You will receive an email acknowledgement confirming receipt. If you do not receive an acknowledgment, please contact: EOSabstracts@tfilodestar.com
7. Please read and adhere to the following guidelines when submitting your abstract:
Authors:
Please clearly identify the first name(s) from the family name. Names will be printed with first names as initials, e.g. John Smith: J. Smith.
Titles (e.g. “Mr.”, “Mrs.”, “Prof.”, “Dr.”) will not be included.
For each author, add the affiliation, if available.
Title:
TITLE SHOULD BE IN CAPS
Maximum 30 words. Please avoid acronyms in titles.
Abstract Body:
Maximum length: 350 words: The Abstract should be in a structured format with a separate paragraph for each subsection. Appropriate subtitles (in caps) for the Abstract include, as appropriate: BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES/AIMS, MATERIALS/METHODS, RESULTS, LIMITATIONS, CONCLUSIONS/IMPLICATIONS. The text should follow the subtitle in the same paragraph, e.g.:
AIM: To evaluate the difference between…
METHODS: We used 143 radiographs…
The abstract should not contain reference, figures, tables or illustrations.
Results should be included in the abstract. Failure to include specific (numerical, where appropriate) results (e.g. using general statements such as “the treatment objectives were achieved”) will disqualify the abstract from the oral presentation session.
Research that has already been published should be reported as such, including the relevant citation. A special entry field is available in the abstract submission form for this purpose.
8. All submissions will be reviewed by the Scientific Committee prior to deciding whether or not they can be accepted in the final programme. It is the submitting author's responsibility to ensure that the abstract is accurate and well written.
Because the time allotted for oral presentations is limited and the number of submitted abstracts is usually far greater than the programme allows, abstracts submitted for oral presentation will be evaluated by the Scientific Committee using a blind review process. This includes independent rating by members of the committee and final selection based on aggregate scores. Please avoid including any identifying information in the main body of the abstract, to facilitate the blind review process.
The review will be based exclusively on the abstract content. Authors are advised not to rely on their, or their institution’s, reputation for acceptance of an oral presentation, as such information will not be available during the review process.
9. Notification of acceptance/rejection will be sent by email to the submitting author by 4 March 2024. If you have not received information concerning the abstract by that date please contact: EOSabstracts@tfilodestar.com.
Abstracts will be rejected for the following reasons:
- Abstracts not submitted within the deadline.
- Abstracts not following the guidelines, with emphasis on formatting and word number.
- Narrative reviews will not be accepted for any mode of presentation.
- Ongoing research projects, with no results at the time of abstract submission, will not be accepted.
- Research published in 2022 or earlier will not be accepted unless significant updates have been made. Please report relevant information for assessment by the Scientific Committee.
- Abstracts may be rejected on the basis of relevance and quality.
10. Only abstracts submitted by authors who have paid their congress registration fee in full by 1 April 2024 will be included in the final programme and published.
11. All accepted presenters will be given a certificate at the end of the conference.
12. Abstracts of all accepted scientific posters and oral presentations will be published in the October issue of the European Journal of Orthodontics. EOS members receive the journal as part of their subscription. Please note that if you do not present your oral or poster presentation in person the abstract will not be published.
13. Please be aware that your submission must comply with the Radiation Protection and will be judged by European Standards. Reviewers may reject submissions that do not comply.
Radiation Protection: clinical practice, recommendations, regulations and legislation regarding the use of ionizing radiation in medicine and dentistry varies between countries.
The latest information regarding radiation protection in dentistry can be found under: https://ec.europa.eu/energy/sites/ener/files/documents/136.pdf
and https://ec.europa.eu/energy/sites/ener/files/documents/172.pdf
14. Any matters not covered by the above will be handled by the Scientific Committee. The decision of the Scientific Committee regarding the acceptance of abstracts is final.
Dear colleagues and friends,
It is with great pleasure that I invite you to the 99th Congress of the European Orthodontic Society, to be held in Athens, Greece, in June of 2024.
The scientific programme will be covered by excellent keynote speakers, and we expect high-quality oral presentations and scientific posters from orthodontic departments around the world. The oral presentations will be selected by the scientific committee using a blind review system, based solely on the submitted abstracts, to ensure objective evaluation.
The networking programme will provide ample opportunity to interact and share knowledge, in a rich cultural environment. Athens is an unforgettable experience and June is the ideal time to enjoy the sites under a beautiful weather, before the peak of the tourist season. Stand at historic sites where the arts and science flourished more than 5000 years ago and visit museums to discover and appreciate the progression of our civilization, from its beginnings to the present day. For relaxing, you might choose island hopping or a visit to the Athenian riviera and a swim in the clear blue waters of the Aegean.
Join us for a memorable scientific and cultural experience at the 99th Congress of the European Orthodontic Society in Athens.
Looking forward to seeing you here!
Demetrios Halazonetis
President, EOS 2024
