Rules & Guidelines for Abstract Submission

Please read the submission rules and guidelines before submitting an abstract.

Please ensure that you adhere to the relevant reporting guidelines when submitting your abstract: Reporting guidelines | EQUATOR Network (equator-network.org).

  • Abstracts must be submitted online via the website only.
    • ABSTRACTS SUBMITTED BY EMAIL WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED
  • An abstract can be submitted to the 57th Annual Meeting of ESPGHAN if it has not been previously accepted for publication.
  • Please note that you can also submit an endoscopy video for consideration to be presented in a special Endoscopy Video Session.
  • For additional instructions, regarding the Endoscopy Video Submission please click here . You should submit initially an abstract and a video. We already prepared for you a sample of a final Endoscopy Video Presentation, which you should prepare next year and present at Helsinki, if the abstract will be accepted. To view a sample of a final Endoscopy Video Presentation, please click here.

Presentation Types:

  • Abstracts may be submitted for:
    • Oral Presentation (to be presented in a parallel scientific session)
    • e-Poster Digital Poster Walk (to be presented at e-Poster stations at a designated time in the programme)
    • e-Poster Presentation (to be presented at e-Poster stations at a designated time in the programme)
    • e-Poster Viewing Only (will not have a dedicated session/presentation time, but will be available for viewing through the e-Poster gallery on the Annual Meeting virtual platform, the mobile app, and during Exhibition opening hours onsite; at the E-Poster stations, near the Exhibition area).

*Please note: All posters will be presented in a digital format this year, eliminating the need for printed materials.

Please note: All presentation types are intended to be given in person, in Helsinki.  The option is not available to present virtually.  If you are selected for an oral presentation and unable to join us in Helsinki, we would be happy to have you join us as a virtual participant and change the type of presentation to an e-Poster viewing only.  This would allow your work to be shared with the delegates on the Virtual Aspects of the Annual Meeting and included in the JPGN journal publication.

  • The Scientific Committee will determine whether the abstract will be accepted for presentation, with consideration given to the author’s preference.
  • Abstracts must be received by the announced deadline.
    • Abstracts received after the deadline, will not be considered.
  • The same person may submit as many abstracts as they would like.
  • The same person may serve as a presenting author on up to 5 abstracts.
  • Presenting authors must be registered participants.
  • Please note: The email used for the person indicated as the presenting author during the submission process, must also be the same email used for the presenter during their registration process.
  • Only abstracts of authors who have paid their registration fees by the deadline indicated in the notification email, will be scheduled for presentation and included for publication.
  • Submission of an abstract acknowledges your acceptance for the abstract to be published in all official Annual Meeting publications, as deemed appropriate by the ESPGHAN Scientific Committee.
    • Including but not limited to, digital publications on the website and the meeting app.  As well as hard copy publications for onsite delegates.

The abstracts for the 57th Annual Meeting of ESPGHAN will also be published as an abstract book in the Journal of Pediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition (JPGN).

Please note: There is an embargo on the abstracts that will be lifted at the start of the Annual Meeting.  The abstracts will be published in the JPGN approximately, in mid-may, once the Annual Meeting has begun.

    • During the abstract submission process, the submitter will have the opportunity to include a contact email for each abstract submitted, to be included in the journal; this is a separate area to provide a contact email in addition to the email used when opening abstract submission.
    • Your contact email will only be shared with the journal if you choose to enter a contact email when requested to do so during the submission process.
      • By not including a contact email in this additional section when requested, your email address will not be shared with the JPGN journal.
      • Only one contact email may be included.
  • The presenting author is required to ensure that all co-authors are aware of the content of the abstract and agree to its submission, before submitting the abstract.
  • Additional information will be sent to the submitters in due course.
    • Please note: Only the individual identified as the submitter and/or the presenting author will receive notifications regarding the submission and all meeting communications thereafter.
  • The official meeting language will be English. Abstracts must be submitted in English.

Dear Colleagues, Friends, and Partners,

We are thrilled to invite you to join us for the 57th ESPGHAN Annual Meeting from May 14–17, 2025, in Helsinki, Finland—a vibrant city that will provide the perfect backdrop for connecting, learning, and advancing our shared mission.

We have curated an exceptional scientific programme for ESPGHAN 2025, featuring the latest research, hands-on workshops, clinical sessions, and interactive learning opportunities. We are also particularly excited to strengthen our ties with our partner societies – Asian Pan-Pacific Society for Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition (AAPSPGHAN), European Reference Network for Rare Inherited and Congenital (digestive gastrointestinal) Anomalies (ERNICA)/European Paediatric Surgeons’ Association (EUPSA), European Society for Paediatric Endocrinology (ESPE), European Academy of Allergy and Clinical Immunology (EACCI) and the European Association for the Study of the Liver (EASL) – each of which will host dedicated sessions that promise to broaden our horizons and spark new ideas.

Whether you’re a seasoned expert or new to our community, the ESPGHAN Annual Meeting will offer invaluable opportunities to share insights, spark collaborations, reconnect with longtime friends and colleagues, and engage with patients’ families and industry leaders who contribute to the future of our work.

It’s more than just an event—it’s a cornerstone of our shared field, that brings together the brightest minds in Paediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition. And you can be a part of it!
